A guide to the gals' use of spells and magic. Dialogue from the shooting scripts.

Soda Machine

Willow + Tara's first magical scene together had no dialogue, but then you didn't really need words to see the connection between them.

LAUNDRY ROOM

The girls enter and slam the door behind them, lock it. A Footman slams into it from the other side. Again -- it's clearly going to give. In the middle of the room by a pillar, several feet in front of the door, is a coke machine. Willow moves toward it, tries pushing it, Tara falling in to help. No go. She takes a step back and stumbles on her bad leg, going clumsily to the ground.
She thinks a moment. Then, sitting up, she concentrates on the soda machine. Stares at it, brow furrowed. Tara watches her. It shakes. It moves -- all of an inch. Exhausted, Willow stops. It's too big. The door nearly slams off its hinges. Tara sits by Willow and slips her hand into Willow's. Fingers intertwining. Willow looks up at Tara. A beat. As one, they turn to the soda machine. It flies back into the door like a cannonball. Willow looks at it, at Tara. She doesn't let go her hand.

Floating Rose

Willow + Tara's first spell.

INTERIOR - TARA'S DORM ROOM

Tara is kneeling on the floor pouring white powder, in the design of a four-point star in a circle. Willow is holding a red rose.

Willow: (sitting across from Tara) I'm glad you wanted to get together. I know it's late.
Tara: Thanks. I was happy you called.
Willow places the rose on top of the circled star.
Willow: We'll start out slow.
Tara sits and Willow reaches her hands out to her and they link hands.
Tara: Okay. Willow closes her eyes and Tara follows suit.
They sit there for a few seconds in silence.
Tara: Willow?
Willow: Yeah?
Tara: (eyes opening) Start out slow doing what?
Willow opens her eyes.
Willow: (in a soft voice) Oh. We're gonna float the rose. Then use the majiks to pluck the petals off, one at a time. It's a test of synchronicity. Our minds have to be perfectly attuned to work as a single delicate implement.
Tara: (a moment, then smiles) Cool.
Willow: And it should be very pretty.

They hold hands again and close their eyes. They are in deep concentration and a bright light comes to life on the circled star. At the same time a soft breeze sweeps through the room and the rose starts to shudder. Slowing it begins to rise. When it is shoulder level with the girls they open their eyes and look at it. They release each other's hands.

Tara: (softly) It worked.
Willow: (softly) Now for the hard part. The petals.

They begin to concentrate again looking at the rose when the rose suddenly shoots off across the room. Surprised, they stand and watch as the rose ricochets off the walls a few times and have to duck to avoid it. It finally comes straight down on the four point star and we see that it is petal-less but smoking.

Willow: (shocked) What the heck was that?
Tara: I don't know, but, uh, the petals are off.

Hairspray

Willow performs a small spell to throw The Initiative off of Spike's trail.

INT. GILES' APARTMENT - DAY
A semi-conscious Spike is now laying face down on Giles' table, a semi-empty bottle of Cognac in his hand. He's droning away in a drunken slurry voice. Oh, yeah - he's hammered. Giles, Xander and Anya stand over him, their attention turned to
Willow, reading from a book she holds in one hand as she brings up the black crystal in the other. A ball of blue light - its core begins to glow.
Willow: (incanting) "Tropo, strato, meso... Aero, iono, exo..."
Xander leans in to Giles.
Xander: (whispering) So how's this supposed to work again?
Giles: (whispering) If she succeeds, her spell will ionize the atmosphere around us, thereby disrupting the tracer's signal. Buy us time.
Willow: (incanting) "Elements are brought to bear... Wind, earth and water churned amidst the fire. Let the air be burned..."
The ball of light burns intensely, then seemingly explodes in a bright flash, like a supernova, radiating outward.
Everyone cowers, throwing their arms over their heads. A series of lightbulbs in nearby lamps burst with loud pops. As the radiating light dissipates...
Willow: Did it work? Is the atmosphere ionized?
Everyone's hair is standing on end, wildly -- loaded with static electricity. Xander looks at Anya and reacts with a start.
Giles: I'd venture yes.
